Such Pretty Faces

A Space to Relate and Create

Big Giant Bubbles are, honestly, the longest standing non pharmaceutical Lexapro like substance that I can think of. I just don’t know how your mood cannot be elevated when you’re blowing bubbles, or looking at them float by. They’re just so magical…

Last year during quarantine, I got very ‘in’ to big ass bubbles, because what’s better than tiny bubbles?

Big ass giant ones.

Also: Confession, I much prefer to blow bubbles in absentia of my children. Kids, they’re like freaking moths to the flame of my giant bubbles- I never get to watch one float away in their presence.

As such: I just sneak outside without them and blow some dang bubbles. Who can relate?

In order to make the best bubbles, you have to hack two things: The bubble solution, and the bubble wand.

You’re welcome in advance, I have opinions on both.

To make the best wand, skip the big one you can buy on Amazon, the rope is made of plastic junk and it doesn’t soak the bubble solutions as well (Also, it’s like $20 and we can do this for $2).

To make this, you’ll need:

  • 1 wooden dowel rod, 5/16″ or larger
  • two screw eyes
  • 1 yard cotton rope
  • (optional) paint, to paint your sticks

I sawed my wood dowel into three pieces, two for handles to my bubble wand, and one for my child to commandeer and turn into a wand.

I pre drilled two tiny holes for which to screw my screw eyes into, and then I got to business.

Screw those screw eyes into the end, thread your rope, and tie a knot where the ‘bottom’ of the bubble rope will be (This acts as a weight and makes better bubbles)

If you want to paint, do so before screwing and drilling and power tooling in general.

NOW: The bubbles.

I’ve tried it all, and I have settled on the following as the best bubbles. Wowmazing Big Bubble Solution. You take this little powder packet, 1 c. of soap, and 1 gallon of water and you’re in business literally for an entire summer. I have taken to storing it in an old sun tea container, which I’ve “Modified” by removing the spigot and covering it with plastic to ensure no leaks. I’m sure there’s a better way but I haven’t figured it out yet.

INSTANT HAPPY. What’s your instant happy?
