My mother invented the taste test game. Teeeeechnically, I cannot be sure that she invented it, but I’m quite certain that she perfected it. It is almost a family credo to taste things up against one another, and because of this…..
I’m raising my kids right.

My kids live for taste tests, and what they don’t know is that taste tests expand their palate and willingness to try new foods by making a game of it like WHOA.
Also, taste tests are good for date nights in.
Here, we have a super easy idea for a tasting game, an apple taste test. Take a stroll (virtually or in person will do) through the flavors of apples at the market, and you’ll quickly realize there are MANY choices. How do you really know that Honeycrisp is your jam if you haven’t tried them all?

So whaddayasay? Lets try them all? We selected five flavors of apples:
- Envy
- Fuji
- Gala
- Pink Lady
- Honeycrisp
And combined them with various pairings that include:
- Sharp cheddar
- Brie
- Caramel
- Marcona Almonds
- Honey
- Dried Fruit
- Peanut Butter
- Honey
This doesn’t have to be a fancy game, but it’s fun to have some commonality to compare with your tasting partners in crime. Using big fancy words about not wine is fun, too.
We leave the stickers on an apple slice, as pictured, so that we know what we’re tasting.

In our house, we taste the fruit “naked” first, and then we start pairing. But, you know what they say: Your house, your rules :).
