My 7 year old has a brilliant idea for his future that I am holding tight to.
He aspires to open up an old fashioned soda shoppe, just the two of us, and sling ice cream and beautiful soda drinks deep into the night.
Honestly, I cannot imagine a more glorious life.
Obviously, as the supportive (ice cream loving) mother that I am, we spend a little time in the kitchen working on our recipes. Count yourself lucky because he has agreed that I can share a top secret one here with you.
Presenting: Chocolate Cherry Soda Ala Sweetness Creetness (Named by Henry).
I do not know what Sweetness Creetness is, but I’m certain it is good because this recipe is good.
This is so easy to make. Your ingredient list is short and all store bought. We have these adorable soda fountain glasses and these long spoons, on account of the fact that this is our future and we need professional ice cream slinger supplies. If you, too, aspire to have an Ice Cream Shoppe or you want to be fancy I have your supplies sourced. From there, all you’ll need are:
- Chocolate Ice Cream
- 7- up
- Chocolate Syrup
- Amerena Cherries or Maraschino Cherries
Drizzle Chocolate syrup on the side of the glass for the art of it and add 1 Tablespoon of Grenadine to the bottom of the glass. Add 1/2 c. scoop of chocolate ice cream and slowly add 7 up until we are about 1″ below the top of the cup.
Add one more small scoop of chocolate ice cream to the top of the cup and add a single glorious Amarena cherry.
*** A Word on my cherry choices: Amarena cherries are better than Maraschino cherries. There. I said it. They’re also about 10 times the cost- so if you’re feeling easy on the budget, go Maraschino. But if you’re feeling fancy: AMARENA. Also, if you’re insane like me, you will buy many jars of the delicious amarena cherries at Trader Joes around Christmas and hoard them throughout the year.
Sincerely, I hope you will join Henry and I at our Ice Cream Shoppe of the future- it will be entitled Sody Pop. Coming soon, our kickstarter campaign!
