Before we go down this rabbit hole, I would like to start by saying that I like to describe my design aesthetic as ‘the inside of I Dream of Jeannie’s Lamp’. While I totally respect the ‘on trend’ grey, farmhouse, and more muted styles…. It’s just not really ‘me’. Also, if you call my mother right now and say: Your daughter is going to buy something for her home. What fabric will it be? She will AUTOMATICALLY say ‘velvet’ and she will be right. I’m predictably in my own little Jewel tone Velvet heavy saturated with color world.
Recently, I was scrolling through bedrooms on Pinterest for just the right ‘look’ and I discovered this bedroom set and hearts started pouring out of my eyes, literally. Not literally, but basically. You understand.

We built our house and moved in a little over 2 years ago. Our old house was a ‘used’ home and we flipped the whole dang thing and it was very much ‘us’ but then we went and had a couple more kids and outgrew the space.
The house we bought was a ‘semi custom’ home, and even though we got to pick lots of stuff, we also had to keep it to a dull roar with things like paint. In that departnment, we had 5 shades of grieige to choose from. Now that it’s been a couple of years, I have a list of ways to turn my house into my home approximately ONE MILE LONG, but I am trying to keep my energies focused on three different rooms.
I’m working with designers on two of the rooms, but I decided to strike out on my own in the bedroom. I ended up purchasing the bedding and painting an accent wall with Sailor’s Coat Paint by Glidden but as you can see, the bed just still felt flat.

This weekend I decided it was time to glam up the bed to get closer to the look I was going for and World Market provided. I was unaware that World market had $9.99 velvet throw pillows – WHAT?? I’ll take 20.
I’m really elated about what I was able to do for less than $75. Also, very elated that my partner in this life is willing to sleep amidst a throne of jewel toned everything.
